Fenbendazole

Category: compound

A broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic being investigated for anti-cancer properties through microtubule disruption and metabolic pathway inhibition.

Mechanism Detail

Fenbendazole binds to β-tubulin, disrupting microtubule polymerization critical for cell division. It also downregulates GLUT4 transporters (inhibiting glycolysis in cancer cells), modulates p53 tumor suppressor pathways, and inhibits the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Clinical Status

Not approved for cancer. Case reports and preclinical studies suggest anti-tumor activity. Clinical trials are needed.
