Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1)
Category: compound
A thymic peptide hormone that modulates T-cell maturation and dendritic cell function. Used as an immune adjuvant and studied for cancer immunotherapy support.
Mechanism Detail
Tα1 activates toll-like receptors (TLR2, TLR9) on dendritic cells, promoting antigen presentation. It drives T-cell maturation from progenitor to mature effector cells, enhances NK cell cytotoxicity, and supports immune reconstitution during chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression.
Clinical Status
Approved in 35+ countries for hepatitis B/C and as an immune adjuvant. Clinical trials for cancer immunotherapy support show improved immune function during chemotherapy. Not FDA-approved in the US.
