Taurine for Stage IV Cancer

Also known as: 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid

Taurine reduces chemotherapy side effects and may have anti-tumor immune-enhancing properties.

Mechanism of Action

Taurine protects against chemotherapy-induced organ damage (cardioprotection from doxorubicin, nephroprotection from cisplatin) through antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing effects. It also enhances NK cell activity and may support anti-tumor immune surveillance.

General mechanism: Amino sulfonic acid. GABAergic/glycinergic modulator, osmoregulator, mitochondrial buffer, membrane stabilizer, antioxidant.

Current Evidence

Clinical evidence for chemoprotection (cardioprotective against doxorubicin). Immune-enhancing effects documented. Direct anti-tumor effects are modest.

Clinical Status: Used for chemoprotection. Available as supplement.

Safety Profile

Extremely safe. Naturally abundant in body. No toxicity reported even at very high doses (6g+/day). Well-tolerated.
